Why a Florida business needs an independent commercial agent

Florida’s commercial insurance market changes faster than almost any state — hurricane losses, litigation reform, carrier appetite shifts, and reinsurance pricing all move premiums sharply year over year. A captive agent who can only sell one carrier’s product cannot respond to those shifts. We do, by shopping every renewal across our full market and replacing carriers when conditions change. Our average commercial account saves over $2,800 a year when we take it over.

General Liability

The foundation policy. Third-party bodily injury, property damage, advertising injury, and legal defense. $1M/$2M for most clients; higher for contractors, large GCs, and any business required by contract to carry more.

Business Owners Policy (BOP)

GL + property + business income packaged for small main-street businesses. 15–25% cheaper than buying separately when you qualify; eligibility based on industry, revenue, and operation type.

Workers Compensation

Required by Florida law at 4+ non-construction employees and 1+ construction employees. Pay-as-you-go available on most carriers. Audit defense and class-code correction.

Coverage details that matter

Commercial Auto & Fleet

Single trucks through 100+ unit fleets. DOT filings for regulated motor carriers. Hired and non-owned auto when employees use personal vehicles for work.

Cyber & E&O

Modern data-breach and professional-error coverage. Includes 24/7 breach response, ransomware, customer notification, and professional negligence defense.

Commercial Umbrella

$1M–$25M of excess liability stacked over GL, auto, and employer’s liability. Increasingly required by Florida large clients and municipalities.

What we actually do for clients beyond quoting

Anyone can run a quote. What an experienced commercial agency actually does is the work between quotes: issuing same-day COIs and additional insureds as your contracts demand them, fighting class-code mis-classifications at workers comp audits, managing your experience modification factor, coordinating multi-policy claims, watching for contractually required limit changes when you land big customers, and being the single phone number you call when something goes sideways. That is the value an independent commercial agency delivers.

  • Same-day COIs and additional insureds for new contracts
  • Workers comp audit defense and class-code correction
  • Experience mod (mod factor) review and challenge
  • Coordinated claim handling across multiple policies
  • Annual renewal re-shop across 25+ carriers
  • One agent for every commercial policy you own

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a BOP and a Commercial Package Policy?

A BOP is a pre-packaged GL + property + business income built for small main-street businesses with revenue typically under $5M. A Commercial Package Policy (CPP) is a customized policy bundle for larger or more complex businesses that do not fit the BOP eligibility window. CPPs offer more flexibility; BOPs are cheaper when you qualify.

How much commercial insurance do I need?

Depends entirely on your industry, revenue, employees, and contracts. A solo consultant might need $1M of E&O and a small GL. A 50-employee contractor with a fleet and a commercial location might need $1M GL, $1M auto, full workers comp, $5M umbrella, cyber, and commercial property — all coordinated. We size each piece based on your real exposure, not a template.

How fast can you issue a certificate of insurance?

Within an hour during business hours for most policies on our book. When you land a new contract that requires a specific additional insured, waiver of subrogation, or higher limit, send us the contract and we typically deliver compliant COIs same day.

Do you write outside of Jupiter, FL?

Yes. We are licensed nationwide. Our Florida book is concentrated in Palm Beach, Martin, Broward, and Miami-Dade because that’s our home market, but we write commercial coverage statewide in Florida and in many other states for clients with multi-state operations.

Do you charge a fee on top of the premium?

No. Insurance carriers pay us a commission that is built into the premium. The rate you pay is the same whether you buy direct from the carrier or through us. There is no broker fee, no service fee, and no shopping fee.

How long does it take to switch carriers?

Most commercial policies can be re-shopped and bound in 1–5 business days for clean accounts; complex placements (multi-location, high-hazard, prior claims) can take 1–3 weeks. We start the process 60–90 days before your renewal so you always have options to compare.

What if I have prior claims?

We work with multiple specialty markets that write commercial accounts with prior claims, lapsed coverage, and tough loss history. Rates are higher than preferred carriers but coverage is available — and we work to move you back into standard markets as your loss history matures.
